About The Position

Energize Colorado is searching for an exemplary leader for the Energize Colorado Gap Fund. The Fund is a public/private partnership which has raised $50 million dollars to assist Colorado small businesses, and the communities that rely upon them, recover from the economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fund offers both a federal/state grant program and a privately subsidized low-interest loan program to businesses and wraps these funding opportunities in extensive business support and technical assistance offerings. In this role, you will find yourself in a key leadership position driving the strategy, development and execution of these programs. The Program Director of the Fund is housed inside the vibrant Energize Colorado organization, which includes both the Energize Colorado Inc. 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit and its operating subsidiary, the Energize Colorado Gap Fund LLC. The Program Director must possess a high level of business and management skills, a deep understanding of the Fund’s priority communities, and be dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good – creating, resourcing, scaling, and leveraging strategies for broad investment and impact. 

 

Responsibilities & Tasks:

General Operations

Model Energize Colorado mission, vision and values to all staff, volunteers and partners.

Collaborate with Energize Colorado Inc. leadership to set administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.

Establish and maintain relationships with partners at the State of Colorado, the Colorado Finance and Housing Authority, lending and granting partners (including community development financial institutions and regional business loan funds), technical assistance organizations and community stakeholder organizations – and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the Gap Fund’s mission.

Collaboratively build and lead teams of staff, consultants, volunteers and working groups to achieve the mission and effectively staff the programs across Energize Colorado Inc. and the Gap Fund LLC.

Promoting diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of the Fund’s work including in staffing, team building, communications and through extensive listening and relationship building with the community at large.

Loan Fund and Federal/State Grant Program

Collaboratively continue to evolve the program guidelines and implementation details of both the Funds’ federally and state complaint small business grant program and privately subsidized low interest loan fund for Colorado small businesses in partnership .

Utilize the robust data generated by the Fund to chart the loan and grant programs’ impact against its mission and model future impact scenarios.

Governance, Finance and Legal

Report to both the Chair of the Energize Colorado Gap Fund LLC and the CEO of Energize Colorado Inc., as well as work closely with the Gap Fund Executive Committee to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.

Oversee preparation and delivery of regular updates on impact, financials, and operations to the Energize Colorado Inc. Board of Directors.  

Participate in the creation, review and approval of legal agreements and contracts.

Develop and operate an annual budget.

Fundraising

Grow the relationships with the Fund’s sophisticated Colorado and national-based funders.

Develop new funding to grow the Fund’s capital for loans, grants and business support services.

Oversee in the preparation and delivery of impact reports and other grant obligations to funders.

Technology Platforms

Oversee the maintenance and future development of grant/loan online application and management system (currently housed in Fluxx Grant Management Software System).

Ensure all platforms and internal/external data handling comply with state and federal statute and contractual obligations related to security and personally identifiable information.

Technical Support and Call Center

Oversee the relationship and execution of the Fund’s small business third-party operated phone and email support center.

Support the development of technical assistance programs to assist loan and grant recipient business long-term success.

Communications and Marketing

Oversee marketing and other communications efforts including website, email newsletters, grassroots community outreach and public advertising campaigns.

 

Qualities we hope you have: 

Substantial experience working in the nonprofit sector, and interacting with volunteers and diverse boards. Alternatively, extensive experience of comparable leadership and management

Proven ability to manage complex programmatic operations especially programs related to grant making and reporting and loan fund capital management.

An understanding of Colorado’s small business and governmental (local to federal) ecosystems and other key market variables.

Ability to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders.

A demonstrated track record of promoting diversity and an ability to build collaboration with the community at large.

Experience in or across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public, and corporate environments.

Experience in developing partnerships, building teams and conflict management.

Experience in philanthropic fundraising.

Must demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence, curiosity, and a desire to explore new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.

Skill in strategic planning, executive presence and presentations. 

Friendly and humble; representing Energize in a positive, inspiring manner.

The Gap Fund itself is a ‘fund of funds’ meaning that we are contracted by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) to collect applications, set the scoring rubric, manage external communications, and raise private funds for both loans and grants. CHFA itself holds the funds and distributes to a network of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to score applications and distribute funding.
